Tim Huff

Tim is one of the rarest of breeds in the industry. He is a remarkable designer, understanding the customer/user to such a degree he creates interfaces that are elegant, yet highly function. But he balances that contributor aspect with being an incredible leader and team builder. He created at Michaels one the strongest design teams I’ve ever encountered in my career. Not only did he pull in the best talent, but he fostered and mentored them to be the best that they had ever been. He created a cohesive team of inspired design. I would HIGHLY recommend Tim for any company or organization that is looking to leapfrog their design capabilities.

Some people just have that special something that makes them stand apart from all the others, and Tim has it. He is an innovator and leader in the UX world. The brilliance of his work will inspire and astound you. To be honest, I had assumptions on what UX was until I met Tim. His incredible depth of knowledge and understanding of the real science behind user experience is absolutely mind blowing. His laser focus on even the smallest details makes real difference in everything he touches. He holds multiple patents and accolades that show him to be a proven contributor to UX – industry wide - AND show him to be an incredible leader and builder of teams. Tim really is extraordinary, the kind of leader that people hope to find in their career, who can mentor them and build them up. Through all the hardships of tight deadlines and directional pivots, Tim kept his team motivated, often diving in, hands on, through long hours and weekend work when it was called for. His team delivered on time, EVERY time. Tim is truly inspiring, leading by example to both his team as well as his peers for his absolute dedication to the work, his incredible eye for beautiful design and his flawless instinct for user experience. Tim is genuinely kind, humble and friendly - making everyone feel at ease and comfortable around him. His personality is such that he can bring joy to even the most stressful situations. He sees the positive in all that he does, and that attitude is treasured in such a tough time. It is a privilege to work along side Tim, and I consider my self lucky to get to learn from such a dynamic leader.

Working with Tim was an excellent experience in my professional career. Tim fostered a supportive and mentoring environment which, being that I was more junior during my time working with him, was a fantastic way to build confidence and grow in my design career. Tim is extremely knowledgeable when it comes to UX patterns and flows, and is always focused on how to create the best product for users. I was always impressed with how willing Tim was to jump into the shoes of his users to truly understand their needs and experiences. He was also incredibly helpful in brainstorming and thought sessions where we were required to define product ideas and shape products. He's great and refining and building on ideas to turn them into something that is truly valuable to the end user. It was an absolute pleasure working alongside Tim and anyone would be lucky to have him as a team leader in the future.

It was a great pleasure working with Tim. He is a collaborative and accountable leader, always dedicated to supporting the team. He helps people reach their top potential. He is enthusiastic and passionate about creating top-notch experience for customers, going the extra mile for innovation. He is also a creative designer, a strategist, and a lifelong learner. I learned a lot from Tim and consider myself very lucky to have worked with him.

From the moment Tim hired me as a Senior UI/UX Designer (over zoom!), I knew he was a special kind of Director... one who cares deeply for his people, both personally & professionally. He trusts his people and builds a strong team who encourage and support one another. Always strategically looking toward the future, Tim pushes for best-in-class blue sky solutions that can be iteratively implemented and improved. While navigating ever-shifting corporate politics, Tim shielded his team from the storm to keep us focused and minimize distraction. He’s available as a safe space to vent when needed, which keeps negativity from taking root. Since the team was built during quarantine, he fostered team-building by organizing purely social Zoom “happy hours” to replicate the bonds that form while working together in person. Tim celebrates accomplishments, recognizes hard work and just generally encourages us. As natural leaders emerge, he rewards them with more responsibility, encouraging professional development. I loved working for Tim, and I would do it again in a heartbeat.

It’s often difficult to pinpoint exactly what virtues a leader should possess in order for not just him or herself to be successful, but ones that bring success to the entire team. In my time working with Tim, I’ve learned that his trust in people leads to sincere empowerment, and his conviction in doing right by the customers breed truly inspirational product experiences. His leadership, methodical thinking, and action oriented leadership will take any organization looking to take their team to the next level that their competitors will not want to be on the other side of. It was truly amazing working under Tim, and I am ever grateful for his mentorship. I look very much forward to one day working with him again.

I was so grateful to work aside Tim at Solera. His excellent work ethic and dedication to the customers was unrivaled and inspirational. He's energetic, forward thinking, and there for his team when they need him. When I felt like I was in a loop doing the same routine day in and day out; I would look to Tim for innovative and creative ways of problem solving. There wasn't one selfish bone in his body when it came to designing. Every conversation started with, "the customer." It was a breath of fresh air in a world where we can let our own desires and decisions cloud the judgement of our end goal. I've looked up to Tim as not only a mentor, but a gracious friend as well. I worked with Tim for a few years at Solera, and I cannot say enough good things about him. Tim is a brilliant designer, innovator, and leader. He’s one of the smartest, coolest people I’ve ever met, and I’d work with him again in a heartbeat. I hope that one day I get the chance to do so. For someone who is so driven and capable, Tim is also extremely humble. Outside of his excellent design and development skills, his ability to be a team player shines through. He leverages his exceptional teaching skills to share knowledge. He is a joy to work with, and an inspiration to many around him. Tim is a true visionary and would be a tremendous asset for any business. He has my eternal respect, and I’d highly recommend him for any role.

I’ve learned Tim as a very dedicated team player. He is a hard worker and goes for the extra mile to get things done. When it comes to getting the best results he’ll dive into the material and do research to understand the users’ needs. I’m impressed by his passion and commitment to create and design the best product and UX. In his leisure time he makes drawings like eye candies. It makes a real artist of him. Tim is a very nice person. It was an honor working with him.
